Ocean

For this project, I combined Photoshop and InDesign. This was a purely rouge project. First I found photos of the ocean I wanted to use. Then I altered them in Photoshop, doing whatever I wanted until I liked how it looked.

Big Wave (Top Left): I put a filter on this photo and applied the burn tool, so there was a greater contrast in colors in the water.

Walkway (Layered on Big Wave): I cropped this photo and put a filter on it.

Mountain (Top Right): I put a filter on this.

Chains and Boat (Center Right): First, I edited the Chains picture. I used a selection tool to select the area above the chains. I then put a filter on that area. Then I selected the area below the chains and put a different filter on that. Lastly, I sharpened the chains them selves. After that I took the Big Boat picture and put a filter on that. Then in Photoshop I put the photos together, so the boats was more transparent than the chains. It made it look like one unified photo.

Tree (Center Right): For this one, I made the light in the middle of the tree brighter. I also used the eye dropped tool and paintbrush tool to dot the sky.

Three Boats (Center Left): Originally there was only one boat. I selected the boat and copied it to the other locations. I also put a filter on it.

Veggie Tales Rock (Center Left): I used an iris blur. I also put a filter on it.

Sunset Rock (Center): I put a filter on just the background using the selection tool. I then sharpened the rock and made it brighter.

Daylight Mist Rock (Center Left): I blurred the sky and sharpened the rock.

Nighttime Mist Rock (Center Right): I copied a lighthouse to become three lighthouses on the side of the cliff. I also used the eyedropper tool and paintbrush tool to paint the sky.

Underwater (Bottom): I changed the hue and saturation to make it brighter and more colorful. I then used the smudge tool to bring the darker bottom upward in strands that resemble sea weed.

After I finished Photoshop, I went to InDesign. I created a blue background. I then placed all the images onto it, I also copied the Underwater photo twice, so it appeared three times. I arranged the photos to my liking. This took some time, and there was complications. The hardest was trying to do the Walkway on top of the Big Wave. I wanted it to look more seamless. This did not end up happening, but this was the closest I could get.

The main struggle was the text. I wrote it in Word, the placed it on InDesign. I needed it to be big enough so it was legible, but not so big it went off the page. I also couldn't increase text size once I placed it. This required me to go back to Word, change the font size, see if it worked, and if it didn't, go back and change it. Then, I had to worry about transparency. I needed to be able to see the pictures behind while still being able to read the words. This took a couple tries as well.
